Austin Adult Entertainment: Profiles of a country in transition

Filed under: Austin adult entertainment — highheels at 9:13 am on Thursday, June 18, 2009

Halasa doesn’t impose a “Lonely Planet”-style formulae on either of these volumes. The two works are similar insofar as each seeks to provide a platform for writers, journalists and photographers to profile facets of their respective cities in their own terms. Yet her contributors’ different sensibilities – a function of the political, demographic and cultural differences between the two countries – make the two books quite distinct.
Though some of its component parts are stronger than others, the great virtue of “Transit Tehran” is its variety. Several discussions of various Tehran neighbourhoods and what they “mean,” mingle with contemplations of the cultural ramifications of traumas like the Iran-Iraq war.
Snapshots of drug abuse and rehabilitation sit next to studies of women’s prostitution and Islamic training. Black-and-white and color spreads, capturing the broad spectrum of Iranian lives, reside alongside reproductions and discussions of work by a range of significant Iranian artists – Khosrow Hassanzadeh and Nicky Nodjoumi, Sadegh Tirafkan and Ardeshir Mohassess. As English-language primers on this very important country go, readers could do far worst than “Transit Tehran.”

As he glanced around a holding cell, the answer came to him: Security cameras. Since then, a vindicating video from the club’s cameras has spared the brothers a possible prison term, resulted in two officers’ arrest and become the basis for a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.
The officers, who are due back in court June 26, have pleaded not guilty, and New York Police Department officials have downplayed their case.
What was she thinking? Palin brings attention to Letterman — could she be his Hugh Grant?
NEW YORK (AP) — Sarah Palin would no doubt be horrified by the idea, but there’s a chance she could become the same boon to David Letterman’s career that Hugh Grant was to Jay Leno’s.
Grant’s 1995 appearance on NBC’s “Tonight” show after a prostitution arrest, where Leno famously asked “what were you thinking?,” was seen in retrospect as a turning point in the late-night race. It drew a huge audience and propelled Leno to the top of the ratings, a spot he would not relinquish.

Austin Escorts: Acevedo defends decision to bypass officer for promotion

Filed under: Austin escorts — goodtimegirl at 11:36 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

… We have to ensure as an organization that we promote only people that we believe are going to help the organization succeed,” said Chief Acevedo.
In a city memo, Acevedo cited two reasons for declining Demoss’ promotion.
One stems from the funeral of former APD Captain Louie White. At the funeral earlier this year, Acevedo says Demoss joked about not knowing Austin City Manager Marc Ott. In the memo, Chief Acevedo says Ott approached Demoss and said hello. Demoss asked “Who are you?”
“He found it humorous. I think it shows a lack of engagement,” said Chief Acevedo.
There are also allegations of Lt. Demoss’ involvement in prostitution.
According to the city memo, Demoss admitted to investigators to visiting a legal prostitution house during a vacation in Panama. He says he didn’t pay for sex, but refused to give other details.

Chief cites prostitution allegation, inability to recognize city manager.
In a rare move, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has denied an officer’s promotion to commander, citing prostitution allegations against him during a vacation abroad more than a year ago that led to an internal affairs investigation but no discipline.
Acevedo said he also would not promote Lt. Wayne Demoss because Demoss failed to recognize City Manager Marc Ott at an event this year, according to a memo obtained Tuesday.

Filed under: Austin adult entertainment — highheels at 5:01 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

hiladelphia’s Mewithoutyou often comes off like a vociferous street preacher in the world of Christian hardcore—mostly due to lead ranter Aaron Weiss—but the group’s new It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All A Dream! It’s Alright! settles into a far folkier, mellow vibe built around acoustic guitar and strings—all the better to explore the spiritual musings of Sufi mystic Bawa Muhaiyaddeen. Proggy post-hardcore act The Dear Hunter opens with its own heady concept songs from the upcoming Act III: Life And Death, the third in a six-act story about the tumultuous upbringing of the child of a prostitute. Doesn’t anyone write about chicks and cars anymore?

Austin Adult Entertainment: Two Year Cocaine Investigation Ends

Filed under: Austin adult entertainment — highheels at 5:01 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Rogers said Amador received between 10 to 20 kilos of cocaine every week. The deliveries were made to his ranch in Caldwell County. FBI investigators also tapped his phone line, which helped them receive a search warrant.
“We went onto the ranch and found a garage that was used for the sole purpose of receiving, cutting and repackaging cocaine,” said Rogers.
APD showed the media the 22 kilos of cocaine seized from Amador’s ranch during a press conference on Wednesday. Members from several law enforcement agencies were on hand for the conference.
“When you all look at that dope, it’s 22 kilos. That’s just a faction of what these police officers and agents took off the streets,” said Acevedo. “That represents hundreds of thousands of people hooked on drugs by these criminals that they go out and steal, prostitute themselves and reek havoc in our neighborhoods.”

… The victim in this case had a posting on Craiglist where she was posting for sensual rubdowns,” APD Lt. Allen McClure said.
McClure says Jason Wayne Sutton responded to the ad and was in a hotel room waiting.
“When she arrived in the room the suspect displayed a badge, told her he was a police officer and she was arrested. She did say that she was convinced that he was a police officer,” McClure said.
McClure says Sutton then sexually assaulted the woman twice. He was arrested Tuesday in Burnet County. He is not an APD officer.
On May 21, the body of prostitute Amy Elizabeth Dickey was found behind a Randall’s near MoPac and William Cannon. Police say she was killed by Nathaniel Briscoe who responded to her ad on Craigslist.

Austin Strip Clubs: ‘Badass-ery’ on display at biker rally

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 3:36 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

The weekend continued with Biker Fest ’09 on Saturday. Imagine what something called Biker Fest ’09 entails, and you’re probably not far off. I was standing by the centrally located bar tent, watching a band set its equipment up, when my friend said, “Hey, those chicks are taking their tops off.” I turned around, and sure enough, the strippers from Expose were taking their tops off and posing for a picture with a random, tattooed dude in leather. We’d been there for literally five minutes.
Charlie Hodge, 93.7 KLBJ disc jockey, described Biker Fest quite eloquently: “An afternoon with super-sweaty strippers, cold beer and synthetic panties on my head. [It] reminds me of a day dream I had once in Marrakesh [a strip club]. Dreams can come true; Biker Fest ’09 is proof.”
