Tiger Woods’ live scripted mea culpa on Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern time, from the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., will inevitably be compared with two forms of the modern celebrity apology: one made famous by Mark McGwire and Alex Rodriguez and the second by politicians like Eliot Spitzer and Mark Sanford.
But unless Woods surprises viewers, his brief statement (no questions, please, from the few reporters in the room) will not fall into either category.
Woods is not an officeholder who has violated the trust of those who elected him. Spitzer resigned as governor of New York after revelations about money he spent on call girls. Sanford’s affair with his Argentine “soulmate” humiliated him and led to the still-sitting South Carolina governor’s pending divorce. Although McGwire delayed apologising for five years, he spent days talking to numerous news media outlets, explaining his drug use. Trying to control his message for as long as he could, he did not face questions during a news conference, but he was criticised for saying he used steroids to benefit his health, not his performance.

Tiger Woods took his first public swing from the deep rough yesterday, reading from a prepared statement to say he was “deeply sorry” for his behaviour, but insisted he would not give details about his infidelity.
“I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated,” he said in his televised speech from a podium before a hand-picked audience of about 40 people, who included his mother in the front row, but not his wife Elin.
“I felt I was entitled … I was wrong.”
The golfer announced he was returning immediately to the therapy he began after the U.S. Thanksgiving car accident on Nov. 26 that opened the floodgates to revelations he slept with more than a dozen women, including porn stars, prostitutes, party girls and waitresses.

Carlson is funny. If, as one suspects, his children attend or attended a posh private school in the rolling, green suburbs of Virginia– say – an Episcopalian private school like the one that he did (posh St. George’s Academy in Newport, RI) they certainly would not be taught the kind of information being pushed …

Most people expected that SXSWi would see a face-off between the two rivals–Foursquare’s loyal New York media following would be rolling into town for the occasion, but Austin is Gowalla’s home turf–and nowhere was that more evident than on Monday night. The two companies were throwing parties right down the block from one another at the same time. Digital agency Jess3 even designed cheeky “Geolocal Showdown” posters as though the whole thing were a massive boxing match.
There were no strippers or fire-eaters, but there were plenty of flashing lights and loud music. Guests to Foursquare’s party, thrown in conjunction with a smattering of start-ups like Brizzly and Stickybits, were greeted with a machine spewing bubbles and tables offering more free T-shirts, stickers, and temporary tattoos than they could possibly dream of. Gowalla was giving away swag, too, and the tropics-themed party featured a DJ set by electronic artist Diplo and more free mai tais than you could shake a tiki torch at. It goes without saying that the lines to get into both parties were quite long.

SG: Expect Malin to really surprise you by being tender, expect Christine to be hilarious…. Alicia is not actually in it. We shot a really cool segment with her that will probably be expanded elsewhere. It was too strange and risque for the tone of this one.
With characters that range from adulteresses to lesbians and members of the porn and prostitution industries, what kind of reaction have you had from female patrons? Have any been offended by feeling you are stereotyping the male fantasy or have they been in on the joke of looking past the labels and found that you really do know something about women?

Theres no better example of this particular panels mindset than Sin City. Jessica Alba played a stripper who didnt take her clothes off in the film (even though in the comics the character definitely does) and most fans were quick to blame the MPAA or the studio for it. Nudity is generally integral to playing a stripper, its not gratuitous, its part of the job and part of the character. But not according to Rodriguez. Instead he revealed that the missing nipples in Sin City were intentional. As Rodriguez explains it, he wasnt comfortable with putting nudity in Sin City but felt he had to be as faithful as possible to the comic which contains a lot of it. So to get around it he says, I thought, well, I can at least put a few booby shots up front and then theyll get the sense that everyone from that point on was naked… you see two breasts at the beginning of the movie and the rest of the movie no. I guess pulling out the boobs left more room for all those completely non-gratuitous beheadings.

Sevigny — known for “Kids,” “Boys Don’t Cry,” “American Psycho,” “Zodiac” and HBO’s “Big Love,” for which she won a Golden Globe this year— loved D’Arienzo’s script for “Barry Munday,” finding it “charming, humorous and very tender.”
She originally went for the lead role, Ginger, played to comic perfection by Greer. “There aren’t a lot of great parts for females out there, obviously,” Sevigny said.
When Greer got the part, “I said, ‘I want to be in it even more now that Judy’s in it.’ She’s one of my favorite actresses. Since ‘Jawbreaker’ I’ve been a huge fan of hers.”
Sevigny’s character, Ginger’s salacious younger sister, secretly dances at a strip club that Wilson’s character frequents.
“That was me dancing, sadly,” Sevigny laughs. “I always promised myself I’d never play a stripper or a hooker, but I did this because it was comedic.”
