Austin Strip Clubs: The Real Cost of a Lap Dance?

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 3:24 pm on Thursday, October 28, 2010

Despite what some billboards around town might lead you to believe, most people do not go to strip clubs for the lunch deals. They go to watch topless women dance up on a stage or, for a little extra dough, up close and personal. Given that the main draw to the clubs is the dancing women, one might be surprised to learn that the clubs don’t pay them anything. In fact, dancers pay the clubs.

Debes, who says he has filed – and mostly settled – similar lawsuits against local establishments such as Chuy’s, the Salt Lick, and Cafe Josie, not to mention various strip clubs in the Houston and Dallas areas, seems certain that he’ll win this one. “The courts have uniformly held that these women are employees, not independent contractors,” he contends. That’s because the dancers aren’t in control of their work environment. “The club – who is their employer – sets the work conditions. The dancers are required to charge a certain amount for lap dances. They are required to dance onstage for a certain amount of time. And those are just a few examples.”

Austin Escorts: When couples fight over design projects

… You’re spending so much time with these people in their homes — you hear everything,” Buatta said. “They can disagree over the simplest things, a fabric or a wallpaper or a bill. If you’re smart you never take sides. I leave the room and let them square things off.”
As Couturier observed, “If the man and the woman want the same things, it’s fine; it’s when they want different things that it gets bad. You know, maybe the woman wants a passport into society, and the husband wants a house to live in. I’ve witnessed battles where you think they’re going to divorce! You just sit there, saying, ‘Please God, take me.” ’
Daniel Sachs, another Manhattan designer, knows well the fidgety feeling Couturier describes. “I’ve sat through things that are so shockingly embarrassing you wouldn’t believe it,” Sachs said. “We did a client who in the middle of the meeting just went off on her husband, accusing him of all kinds of things, having been with prostitutes, as though no one was in the room.”

Teen, 5 others forced into prostitution
Cops: Man would starve and extort them

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Detrick Lavelle Johnson was arrested on charges of forcing a teen and five other females into prostitution, according to the Austin Police Department.

She reportedly told them she and a number of other females were being forced into prostitution. The teen told police that after knowing Johnson for only six days, she and another female were coached and forced into that lifestyle.

Court documents said none of the victims were allowed to leave the hotel room unless they were on a prostitution deal. Johnson also allegedly slept in front of the hotel room door to keep the females inside.

Johnson is charged with compelling prostitution, a second-degree felony. His bond is set at $150,000.

Austin Strip Clubs: A note on commenting

James Gandolfini describes himself as a “260-pound Woody Allen,” nothing like the mafioso he played on the HBO series “The Sopranos.”
In “Welcome to the Rileys,” which screens tonight at the Austin Film Festival, he creates yet another memorable character — but one who probably mirrors his real-life personality better than Tony Soprano.
He’s Doug Riley, a middle-age, middle-class married man who is estranged from his wife, Lois. They still live together, but it’s not an intimate relationship. Lois (the always brilliant Melissa Leo) has retreated inside their home ever since their daughter died in a traffic accident.
When Doug attends a boring convention in New Orleans, he slips away from the shop talk of his fellow professionals and ducks into a strip bar, where he meets Mallory (Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame.)

A rep for Warner Bros. told E! Online’s Marc Malkin, “Unfortunately Heather won’t be in the sequel – they way the story unfolds doesn’t allow any room for her character to show up. But the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a Houston jury that said Marshall was mentally fit and under no undue pressure when he wrote a will leaving nearly all of his $1.6 billion estate to his son and nothing to Smith.
Smith’s estate is appealing that ruling.
Marshall’s estate said they are ready to fight for their case. “We have never wavered in our commitment to uphold the clearly stated and carefully documented wishes of the late J. Howard Marshall, II concerning how he wished the estate he created be distributed after his death,” a statement from the estate said.
The convoluted dispute over J. Howard Marshall’s money has its roots in a Houston strip club where he met Smith. The two were wed in 1994 when he was 89 and she 26. Marshall died the next year and his will left his estate to his son.
