Jose Alejandro Romero, 17, is charged with aggravated robbery after police said he went into the Speedy Stop Gas Station at 1660 E. 51st St. just after 4 a.m. and demanded cash.
The clerk initially thought it was a joke because even though he said Romero was holding the caulking gun under his shirt, he told police he could tell it was not real. Still, Romero reportedly continued to yell and became more agitated, scaring the clerk.
The clerk said he was having problems opening the cash register, making Romero increasingly mad. That’s when Romero allegedly hit the clerk with the caulking gun.
However, the clerk was able to spook Romero off when he ran into him with a garbage can, which police said caused Romero to flee without any property or cash.
The man in the dress allegedly served as the getaway driver and told police he is a transient and prostitute.
