The party ended tragically when Wong’s second-floor, 400-square-foot deck, built without permits, collapsed before dawn. At least 26 people were injured, prompting what officials have called the largest hospital trauma response since Hurricane Rita in 2005. Victor Wong suffered a back injury, his brother Calvin has said.
Victor Wong, a 43-year-old musician and entrepreneur also known as DJ Veedub, is a University of Texas graduate who friends say was a fixture of Austin’s nightlife scene.
The three-story Garden Court condominium was outfitted to be the quintessential party pad with white leather couches, a chrome stripper pole and a hot tub on the first-floor patio, according to photos released by city officials.
