The ‘Shattered Dreams’ program is one of the initiatives that all District Representatives in the South Bureau worked just prior to prom and graduation. The graphic, day-long program, where reenactments of DWI collisions are depicted and the focus is on not drinking, is coordinated with the Austin Fire Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
In increasing ongoing operations, DR’s from one district will be pulled to assist in other parts of the South Bureau. “Our unit was temporarily located for several weeks to help out with the South Central district. We were assisting with operations targeting street level narcotics, gang activity, weapons and prostitution in south central Austin,” said Officer Zachary LaHood, DR for the southwest sector. ” One of the other things we have been doing is spending about half our time on DR duty and the other half on street response. This has been extremely successful and helps develop cohesiveness in the different units throughout the south bureau,” he added.

Austin police are investigating the weekend shooting deaths of two men as businesses in the North Austin neighborhood worry about safety.
Business owners in Lanier Village want more police presence at the shopping center located in the 8600 block of North Lamar Boulevard where two Hispanic men were fatally shot early Sunday morning.
One died in the parking lot. Another man died three hours later in the hospital.
Austin Police Department homicide detectives are investigating the crime, but will not say how it happened.
A white SUV crashed into the building leaving behind damage thatis still visible.
Austin police officers have proactively increased patrols to the area and conducted drug and prostitution stings to lower the crime rate.

Police say they received a tip that women were being forced to engage in prostitution while being held against their will in the house.

Rufino Lopez-Ramos, 51, was arrested after police went undercover and learned that he was the operator of the prostitution house which is located in the 1000 block of North Meadows Dr.
According to APD spokesperson Sgt. Bazzle, police received a tip that women were being forced to engage in prostitution while being held against their will in the house.
On July 7, a human trafficking and vice unit followed up on the tip and performed an undercover welfare check. Based on the observations of the unit, it was determined that the women were willingly participating in acts of prostitution.
The undercover unit also determined that Lopez-Ramos was the overseer of the brothel and was knowingly and intentionally managing the prostitutes.

Police detained Lopez-Ramos for his immigration status and aggravated promotion of prostitution.

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police are investigating the stabbing death of a man who was attacked Wednesday at the Budget Lodge Inn on I-35 and 51st Street .
The victim was rushed to University Medical Center Brackenridge after the stabbing, where he died a short time later. Crime tape Wednesday afternoon cornered off a section of the motel’s back parking lot near the third-floor room where police found the victim.
Notorious for drugs and prostitution, the motel came close to being shut down last year. The crime, combined with numerous code violations, piled up, but owner Larry Hill has said the motel was not the problem and instead part of the solution.
