The war on women’s reproductive rights continues! In case you missed it, Rush Limbaugh apologized over the weekend for the sexist rant he aimed at Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke last week. Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” because she testified at a Democratic forum in Washington that she believes birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions. As a result of his gaffe, Limbaugh has lost seven sponsors and there are several petitions circulating online calling for his dismissal from the airwaves. Fluke appeared on The View this morning and told the hosts that Limbaugh’s apology doesn’t change her opinion of him, “Especially when that statement is issued when he’s under significant pressure from his sponsors, who have begun to pull their support from the show.” According to Fluke, Limbaugh insulted her and the women of Georgetown University “over 53 times” on his show.

AOL on Monday became the latest company to suspend advertising on the Rush Limbaugh Show in response to the radio host’s comments about a Georgetown law student who advocated health care coverage for contraception. “At AOL one of our core values is that we act with integrity,” the company said in a Facebook post. “We have monitored the unfolding events and have determined that Mr. Limbaugh’s comments are not in line with our values.” Outcry over Limbaugh’s comments began last week after he criticized Sandra Fluke, a student at Georgetown Law, for stating her views about contraception coverage at a hearing on Capitol Hill. Limbaugh said Fluke’s advocacy made her a “slut” and a “prostitute.”
AOL is among a group of ten companies that have pulled ads in response to the controversy. Others include QuickenLoans, technology services provider Citrix Systems, data backup service Carbonite and mattress company Sleep Number, a unit of Select Comfort.

Rush Limbaugh issued an apology, of sorts,  on his website Saturday after spending three days insulting a female Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke, who had testified about access to contraception. He  called her  a “slut” and a “prostitute,” said she wanted to be paid for having sex and so suggested she should post videos her herself online, and observed that she must be having so much sex he was “surprised she can even walk”.  In response, advertisers started pulling out of his show, so Limbaugh tried to stanch the wound. Presumably visions of radio host Don Imus, whose career was permanently damaged after he called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos,” helped convince Limbaugh to make a rare apology.

The audacity of the president’s secularist hope — which is nothing more than a totalitarian power grab against the Catholic Church and other denominations — is despicable. The GOP should apologize for nothing in this battle of the culture war and take the fight to him. Portray him every day as an enemy of religion and conscience rights. And do not surrender one inch to a mau-mauing media of anti-religious bigots who do his bidding day in and day out.
Far more troubling than Rush Limbaugh’s comment about Sandra Fluke is the cowardice of country club Republicans who refuse to join the talk show host in denouncing Obama for his war on religion. If anybody deserves an apology from Rush, it is prostitutes. They pay for their birth control themselves, and, unlike Fluke, they don’t demand that the clergy underwrite their carnal activities.

Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown Law student at the centre of the Rush Limbaugh ‘Slut’ row, has now received public backing from not one but two American Presidents. First, Barak Obama telephoned her to offer words of support, now former President Bill Clinton has also contacted the student.
The student, who had recently testified at Capitol Hill in favour of Obama’s controversial plan to make birth control freely available as part of health insurance, had become the target of comments by political hate-monger and right-wing nut-job Rush Limbaugh, who described the student as “a slut” and a “prostitute” because of her support for the bill.
Now, the Georgetown student can boast that she is on first name terms with two American Presidents!
President Clinton is reported as saying, “I know a thing or two about sluts, and let me tell you, this girl is no slut!”
