Austin Strip Clubs: Short Shelf Life for Simonov’s ‘Choosing a Hero’

The actual space at Polytheater is a crucial player in this. This is a lecture hall, not a theater. Over the decades it has seen historical performances by Vladimir Mayakovsky in the 1920s and Vladimir Vysotsky in the 1960s. This imparts an unusual atmosphere to the proceedings.
In her set design, Alisa Melikova both embraced and bucked the nature of the space. She accentuated its nontheatrical aura by blocking up the entire stage with a huge vertical construction. The actors walk up and down sets of stairs in what amounts to a sheer wall. On the other hand, Melikova overcame the severe limitations of the space through the use of film — residential interiors, landscapes and abstract designs are projected on sidewalls to give the impression that we are being transported to various locations.
The performance consists primarily of the court process led by the prosecutor with flashback scenes popping up here and there. Ageyev stylistically leans on the usual set of familiar contemporary “genres” — a TV talk show, a courtroom drama and, when the prosecutor turns into something of a stripper, a mildly titillating pop show.

Austin Strip Clubs: Can R. Kelly fans get a refund for that disaster of a show on Saturday?

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 8:36 pm on Monday, May 14, 2012

It sounded too good to be true, which means, of course, that it was: R. Kelly, the man behind “I Believe I Can Fly,” “Bump ‘N Grind,” “I’m A Flirt” and more, singing at a North Austin strip club for “an intimate night with R. Kelly”? With tickets starting at a mere $30?

Finally, for his part, Kelly was telling the truth: at the event, a promoter explained to the hostile crowd that R. Kelly gets paid $250,000 if he’s actually going to perform — which also explains why a singer whose 2011 appearance in Houston had him play an 19,300-capacity arena was suddenly popping in to an under-utilized Austin strip club a year later. It’s hard to blame him for the fact that the promoter didn’t mention that he wouldn’t be singing in advance — though, while his reputation isn’t likely to get any worse, yelling that you weren’t paid enough at a bunch of fans who bought tickets expecting to hear you sing isn’t really a great look.

Austin Strip Clubs: R. Kelly Pisses Off/On Austin [Show? Review]

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 14, 2012

My stomach dropped a little when we showed up at a swanky strip club near the junction of 183 and 290 and right past the entrance was a sign proclaiming “NO REFUNDS.” My fellow concert goers and I joked that they were just going to play us some R. Kelly music videos, but once we saw the room we were too excited by the idea of seeing R. Kelly perform up close and personal to really believe this could all just be a rip off. R. Kelly’s legend is so great that Aziz Ansari does a bit where he simply describes going to an R. Kelly concert. And here we were, about to watch the man perform on a stage five feet from us. A stage with stripper poles on it.

Austin Strip Clubs: My Pinterest Is Piledrivers: WWE-vamping The Industry V (The Rock, Austin …

Hello everyone, and welcome back to My Pinterest Is Piledrivers.  I thought the comment section for my last column was excellent, and even included an appearance by “Starcade,” my favorite commenter who is seemingly and inexplicably contrarian to what 99% of the IWC likes… so, perhaps… he or she is the average sports entertainment fan?  Oh, and I’m James A. Carter, but you knew that from scrolling down and seeing me sit on a stone wall in Spain.
Here is a promo between two wrestlers, Tyler Black (now signed to the WWE) and Austin Aries (now signed to TNA).  Both of these guys are well-respected in regards to their in-ring physicality, although I’d say that only one of these guys is also well-respected in terms of character development, promo work and acting.  So what’s to become of the other?  Should he be cast off into the seedy worlds of reality show celebrity bodyguard or strip club bouncer?  No.

Austin Strip Clubs: Scandal highlights lack of women in Secret Service

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 3:12 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012

Women make up about 25 percent of the agency’s workforce, but only about 11 percent of agents and uniformed officers, said spokesman Ed Donovan. That’s significantly lower than the 19 percent of female special agents in the FBI, though higher than the 9.7 percent of special agents who are women in the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Secret Service does not provide gender breakdowns on the agents assigned to presidential details, though women have been included on those assignments for years.
The agency has aggressively recruited women, targeting female-oriented career fairs and sending brochures to colleges.
“We all recognize that we want to get more women into the Secret Service,” Donovan said.
But that wasn’t easy even before the prostitution embarrassment in Colombia, which arose the morning of April 12 when a Secret Service officer and a prostitute publicly argued over payment in a hotel hallway. A dozen Secret Service employees and a dozen military personnel have been implicated. Although Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said it appeared to be isolated, the agency has since confirmed it’s investigating if employees hired prostitutes and strippers ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit to El Salvador last year.

Austin Strip Clubs: Matthew McConaughey & Fiance Camila Alves: One of the 100 Hottest Celebrity …

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 9:12 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2012

We never thought Matthew McConaughey and his abs would walk down the aisle, but it’s happening! That’s the plan, at least. The actor popped the question to the mother of his two adorable children, Camila Alves, over the holidays. They’re reportedly planning a big wedding in Brazil, but are getting settled back in Texas first. The actor explained that they’ve decided to split their time between L.A. and his home state for some exposure to “family values, neighbors and common sense.” Speaking of exposure, McConaughey will be showing quite a lot when he plays a male stripper in this year’s Magic Mike.
For those curious about our process of ranking these couples, this year we’ve refined our definition of “hotness” to rank 100 celebrity couples using the following criteria: Staying Power, Popularity, Success, and Attractiveness. The resulting list includes hot pairings made up of models, singers, actors, ex-wrestlers, reality stars, and more. While the hottest couple of them all, Beyonce and Jay-Z, has been on our list for four years now, 24 of these famous duos also made their debut. Check out the entire feature here.

Austin Strip Clubs: Bedpost Confessions: Your place for a much needed sex-positive night out

Filed under: Austin strip clubs — angel at 5:01 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2012

One of the things we hear most often after shows is “This is so important.” You’d be happy if you’re hearing “Oh my gosh, that is sexy. I feel inspired to be sexual right now.” But to me hearing “We’ve got to make this country better for humans to be sexual or to love.”
That to me means it is striking a deeper cord in people. Something is going on beyond entertainment value.
We have very a good friend named Missy Dugan who says, “You’re like those moms that put broccoli in the brownies.” It tastes amazing, and you feel healthy afterwards.
RW: There’s nothing else out there like that. If you want to have a sexy experience and go out, you can go to a strip club. You could go out for burlesque. There’s no conversation happening there and there may or may not be any real sex-positive message going on.

Man charged with capital murder in strip club shooting
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
A man has been charged with capital murder in the Monday shooting death of a cab driver at Palazio Gentleman’s Club in South Austin.
Eldon Alanson Decker III, 50, is accused of shooting Larry Lazaro Garcia, 49. Decker was at the Travis County Jail Wednesday with no bail set, according to public records.
Garcia, who was a Yellow Cab driver, was at the club to pick up a passenger, according to cab driver John Subocz.
As Garcia was talking to a female employee near the entrance to the club shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Decker approached Garcia, pointed a revolver at him and said “This is a robbery,” according to an arrest warrant.
Garcia, who was speaking on a cell phone, turned to see that Decker had the revolver pointed at him and then lunged at Decker, the warrant said.
