There is not much that is not English-language at the South by Southwest Film Festival (9-17 Mar 2012), but the Asia Pacific region has some representation.
The increasingly influential film and music event in Austin, Texas includes Daniel NETTHEIM’s The Hunter and Catherine Scott’s sex worker documentary Scarlet Road both from Australia. From Indonesia is Gareth Huw EVANS’ The Raid Serbuan maut (pictured).
The main competition includes Asian-themed Eden, by Megan Griffiths about a Korean-American woman forced into prostitution. It stars Jamie Chung and Beau Bridges. Another section includes The Taiwan Oyster, directed by Mark Jarrett, about teachers who return from the US to Taiwan to bury a colleague.

Saturday saw the U.S. premiere of Andrea Arnold’s “Wuthering Heights.” Anyone who has seen Arnold’s “Red Road” or “Fish Tank” will recognize her unique style in this invigorating take on the classic novel. Prostitution charge reduced
The charges against a woman accused of running a prostitution ring in Rollingwood were reduced to misdemeanor prostitution on Jan. 12, according to Travis County court records.
Daifei Li, 45, was charged with aggravated promotion of prostitution, a third-degree felony, in August 2010 after she was arrested in a sting operation on the Rollingwood-based massage parlor she was running.
According to an arrest affidavit for Li, some reviews on an escort review website said that her massage parlor, Massages by DiDi, was providing sexual acts for money. The affidavit alleged that Li was controlling, supervising or managing multiple prostitutes.
