Motel almost closed in 2009 after complaints

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police are investigating the stabbing death of a man who was attacked Wednesday at the Budget Lodge Inn on I-35 and 51st Street .
The victim was rushed to University Medical Center Brackenridge after the stabbing, where he died a short time later. Crime tape Wednesday afternoon cornered off a section of the motel’s back parking lot near the third-floor room where police found the victim.
Notorious for drugs and prostitution, the motel came close to being shut down last year. The crime, combined with numerous code violations, piled up, but owner Larry Hill has said the motel was not the problem and instead part of the solution.

Lowering the eligibility age to 15 may not make much of a difference in the upper half of the final round, either. It does, however, open up greater possibilities for a true teen heartthrob to emerge from the show, for Idol to find the equivalent of a Justin Bieber (who’s now 16) or a slightly older Greyson Chance (still just 12). Factor in the announcement that Idol will accept online auditions via MySpace, and it’s pretty clear the producers hope to create a viral sensation along the lines of Chance or General Larry Platt, just eligible to compete. (But if you think the show pimps its favorite contestants now, wait till you see what happens when one of them gets 10 million YouTube hits under his or her belt.)

Sydney: The three-week Tour de France race was rocked with more controversy involving seven-time champion Lance Armstrong, with claims of personal nature being made against him by former teammate Floyd Landis.
Landis, who was stripped of his 2006 Tour title for failing a dope test and who recently admitted lying about drug use while accusing Armstrong and a number of other cyclists of cheating, told the Wall Street Journal that Armstrong organised a team bonding party attended by strippers at which cocaine was used.
Armstrong’s lawyer in a statement has denied these new claims, and Armstrong himself has recently said that Landis is a habitual liar who had no credibility.
The newspaper article elaborates on alleged doping practices by Armstrong, his teammates and their coterie of trainers and medical staff – from alleged blood doping to the sale of brand new bikes for cash to fund the doping system that Landis claims was in place at their team that was then sponsored by US Postal Services.

In a statement sent to Associated Press through his manager before the start of the Tour de France in the Dutch port of Rotterdam, seven-time Tour winner Armstrong described Landis’s claims as “a carton of sour milk: once you take the first sip, you don’t have to drink the rest to know it has all gone bad.”
Landis told the newspaper that some of the bikes provided to Armstrong’s team were sold to help the US Postal team fund his doping program. He also alleged Armstrong organised a team bonding party attended by strippers at which cocaine was used.

Rotterdam boasts a temperamental ‘micro-climate’ and in the half an hour prior to the start of today’s stage, we saw a downpour, a burst of sunlight, some drizzle, a chilly wind and then a humid patch.
